A week or so ago I visited the Lincoln Cannons Volleyball Club to photograph the clubs Invitational Charity event. The event was setup to celebrate the successful growth of the club in recent years – being driven forward by chair and club head coach Navaz Sutton.
The day was based around two invitational matches which saw the Lincoln Cannons teams facing a ‘All Star’ squad. Both matches were hard fought with some very impressive playing.
The event was also supporting local charity the Adam Gibbons Sports Foundation, a charity setup to help talented young players to achieve their potential. You can find out more about the charity here. The club managed to raise a fantastic £211 for the charity!
It’s quite a cool venue to photograph at, whilst during a match situation you are fairly limited in the angles you can achieve the bright blue wall colour of the Cherry Willingham sports hall helps to create some really fresh, striking imagery. I definitely want to go back in a training situation and try out a few ideas that I’ve had floating around in my head. I think there’s some potential for some very cool imagery!
It was my first time watching an all mens match too – it’s incredible to see how high these guys can jump! You definitely don’t want to be on the receiving end of the ball as it powers through the air.
Hopefully I’ll get to visit again soon. You can find out more about the Lincoln Cannons Volleyball Club & Adam Gibbons Sports Foundation in the links below.
