2013 was the 90th running of the Le Mans 24 Heures. With a stellar entry list with the best drivers in the world competing. It should have been an iconic event.
I was excited to be in attendance for the event after winning the tickets via the Concours de la Sarthe competition in 2012. It was my first time at the legendary event and for the most part it didn’t disappoint. I was a spectator so had no special access and just tried to experience the race the best I could.
I’d been planning for this to be a blog post all about the atmosphere of the event and finding my ‘Le Mans’ moment but considering the circumstances this didn’t seem right thing to do.
We lost a great on that weekend, a guy who could drive anything – and anything quickly. I’ve seen him compete in the likes of British GT for years and he always put on a great show for the fans. He was even on GTE-Am pole for that very weekend proving what a world class driver he really was.
Rest in peace Allan Simonsen.
