No matter what you say, club racing still provides some of the best and closest racing you’ll see in the UK. Whilst they may not be dashing around in £300,000 Ferraris or Aston Martins the racing can be as equally thrilling.
Last weekend I was at my home circuit once again, Cadwell Park, for some more MSVR Club Car Championship action. The event was headlined by the Ariel Atom Cup, a new series for 2013 and factory backed by Ariel. Unfortunately, the entry list was a leaving a little bit to be desired. Only 7 cars on the entry list meant that whilst the cars were impressive, the gaps between the cars coming past again felt like forever. I am told that the championship should pick up in the coming events increasing the field to 15-16 cars which would be a sight to behold.
The championship that provided the most exciting racing of the weekend had to be the Touch of Mojo Mk2 Golf GTi Championship. With 25+ cars on the grid you could easily see why this is becoming one of the more popular championships to race in within club racing. The calendar is packed full of exciting venues such as Spa Franchorchamps and the Brands Hatch GP loop help to make the racers genuinely excited to be a part of it all.
Moving on from Cadwell Park, next weekend I’m off to the Nürburgring for the 41st ADAC Zurirch 24 rennen. To say I’m excited is an understatement! The track is one of the most punishing and exciting in the world and is held as the ‘ultimate’ racing track by many Gran Turismo fans. With 179 cars on the entry list it’s going to be a superb race – a proper battle between the high spec GT3 cars ran by BMW, Audi, Aston Martin, Mercedes and Porsche. Unfortunately I’m only visiting as a spectator rather than accredited media, however you can still expect to see photographs in the following days after the event.
Here is a selection of my favourite photographs from the event. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below!
