The Avon Tyres British GT Championship headed towards a sunny Silverstone for Race 4 of the championship with a stunning 40+ cars on the grid it was set to be a superb weekend of racing. The championship had merged with the Avon Tyres GT4 Trophy bringing in some new marques to the series; Chevrolet, BMW (with the M3), Lotus and a plethora of Ginettas all joined the regular British GT entrants.
The Silverstone 500 as it was dubbed, was a 3 hour endurance race around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. The eventual winners of the race would be the Barwell run Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 GT3 driven by Marco Attard and Olly Bryant who took home the spoils in the GT3 category whereas in GT4 an exciting battle took place between the Pro Sport Performance Porsche Cup of Jörg Viebahn and Adam Christodoulou and the Ekris BMW M3 of Bernhard van Oranje and Ricardo van der Ende. Eventually the Porsche team would take the trophy.
The next round of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship takes place at MSVs Snetterton circuit in Norfolk on the 15th & 16th of June. My next event is the Blancpain Endurance Series at Silverstone for Round 2 of the championship.
